You know why nobody swings like Eddie? Because of his parents DNA. Father musician and Indonesian mom. The laidback, swinging way of playing is the Indonesian DNA. And Many people want to play Eddie’s music too fast to show off how good they are, but that’s exactly not to do with Eddies music. Never forget; Eddies was always 😊 because he was in the right mood. Not chaining to the end of the song.

This is so true. For me, the jaw dropping moment of hearing EVH playing was hearing I’m The One, not Eruption. As impressive as Eruption was and is, it was more of a demo, a gimmick, a bag of tricks. With a lot of teaching, practice, time and effort, it was possible to play those notes in that way and in that order. New players could duplicate the mechanical moves necessary to make those noises. But, not so with I’m The One. The technical characteristics and nuances of the playing on ITO are what give it the swing and human feel. You can watch a dozen kids on UA-cam nail Eruption note for note. But I have yet to see anyone play ITO and really make it sound … right. Even if a player hits all the notes correctly, it’s just not the same. Many players remember the first time they heard EVH play, and so do I. But I remember when I first time I heard I’m The One. Eruption was sorta like “here’s my trick bag. Pretty cool, huh?” I’m The One was like “ok. now that you’ve witnessed the techniques, let’s use all that to make music”. Tons of people can play eruption fairly well. I have yet to hear anyone do justice to I’m The One.
